Over the years I’ve experimented with many wordpress seo plugins, each has had its own unique abilities – though in general they all took on the roll of “doing everything”. But sometimes you want something a little more specialist, you want to optimise your pages and posts, you want to make sure the content is simply awesome – recently I came across Squirrly an awesome plugin which works well in combination with my other favorite SEO wordpress plugin, Yoast.
If you just want to win a subscription that’s fine, scroll to the bottom of the post – but if you want to know more about the plugin here is why I think Squirrly is fantastic.
My Experience with Squirrly
When I started using Squirrly SEO plugin a few months ago, I had heard that it was good and a number of my friends across the sea in america had suggested trying it. As you may gather from the above being a fan of Yoast I had my concerns that somehow one would harm another somehow – but that isn’t the case, they work hand in hand and together they are a great combination.
Easy to Use SEO Plugin
I know a fair bit about wordpress and making plugins work how you want them to, but with Squirrly that knowledge wasn’t needed. This is an SEO plugin for wordpress which requires very little set up – literally just a moment or two of work.
Once you’ve installed it, you will then see a sidebar in your posts and pages – it should look something like the one to the left. This sidebar is your simple and effective way to check various important factors within that page or post. Going all green is your way to success.
Making the Most of Squirrly SEO
Squirrly has a bunch of tool’s in it’s arsenal, all of which are based around you selecting the keyword / keyphrase you are targeting. As you can see in the example to the left I was targeting “social media” as my phrase.
Once you have chose a phrase, you can then refine this using the “keyword research tool” Squirrly provides (found just above your post editing area). As you can see below you can then refine your target by looking at information such as competition levels and the current trend for the terms in question.
More Great Squirrly Features
As well as a great keyword tool and a great “green light” sidebar, to help you get to the top of rankings the squirrly sidebar has a few more neat features to look out for. These features include:
- Find relevant images and insert to your post (shown right)
- See the latest relevant tweets and news articles
- Find information from wikipedia about that keyword
- See what others are writing on relevant blogs
- You can also see what other posts you’ve written on your blog
Can Squirrly “Do it all?”
Above I talk about how this wordpress seo plugin can be used in combination with Yoast, but if you don’t feel that advanced with wordpress or simply don’t want to have the fuss of lots of plugins – Squirrly can do it all.
Squirrly settings are designed for everyone, if you just want it to optimise everything in the setting simply select “beginner” and turn everything on – let Squirrly do that hard work for you.
If on the other hand you want to take more control and allow Squirrly to do only certain things to your site for you, you can select advanced and turn on the very specific things you’d like it to do.
This SEO plugin for wordpress really does make content writing and website management easy for anyone. A combination of simple tools for everyone and advanced options allowing you to do anything you want with your site and still have Squirrly support make this plugin a must-have.
Squirrly SEO is free for up to 5 article optimisations, though you wont get the keyword research feature. to get the most from Squirrly you will need a subscription, and these start from around $10usd a month (approx £6). Once you’ve got a subscription you are not limited to using it on one blog or website, so this plugin is ideal for anyone caring for a network of blogs or who wants to give a friend a helping hand.
